A Celebration of Life - Patricia Cooper McGuire

"When God had made The Man, he made him out of stuff that sung all the time and glittered all over. Then after that some angels got jealous and chopped him into millions of pieces, but still he glittered and hummed. So they beat him down to nothing but sparks but each little spark had a shine and a song."

("Their Eyes Were Watching God", Hurston pg. 90)

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

("Nothing Gold Can Stay", Robert Frost)

Easel holding canvas white,
Depth of sea and mountain's height.

Then a cloud God's hand reached through,
Poised with brush, stroked red and blue.

Flowers of most every kind,
Hide and seek, the lost to find.

Leaves of green and sheaths of gold,
Priceless portrait, can't be sold.

Childlike questions to and fro,
Answers falling, white as snow.

Bluebird sat upon a limb,
Heaven calling, light is dim.

Three days waiting without doubt,
God breathed in and self breathed out.

Perfect storm now peaceful rest,
All of God made manifest.

Picture, painting, now redeemed,
Masterpiece a fading dream.

("God's Masterpiece", Melody Worsham)
